USS Arizona

The USS Arizona is a Pennyslyvania class Battleship.It was sunk on December 7 1941 by Japanese army as part of a surprise attack on the US.A total of 1117 US Navy officers died when she sank.The ship’s sinking was due to a massive explosion maybe in her powder magazines.

When the Navy could not save her her superstructure was removed and placed on another battleship Nevada.A floating memorial marks the site of the Arizona. Oil still leaks from her hull which makes her a threat to the environment.
