The MV Dona Paz
This passenger ferry is one of the world’s deadliest shipwrecks.She sank in December 1987 and claimed the lives of 4386 people which made it the biggest maritime disaster in history. The Dona Paz was initially a Japanese ferry capable of carrying just 608 people. It was sailing between Manila and the outlying islands when she struck an Oil tanker called The MT Vector and they caught fire.
Both ships sank in the shark occupied Tablas Straight.The death toll was high because rescuers did not reach there for 8 hours.The Dona Paz now lies under 545 metres of water and is called Asia’s Titanic.
