While many of us
may object to our pet's bad breath, we should pay attention to what it may be
telling us. Bad breath is most commonly an indication that your dog’s diet is
improper. It is not necessarily an indication that your dog’s dental health is
in jeopardy. Visit a qualified veterinarian to find out the root cause of the
bad breath problem. Any time you notice your pet has bad breath accompanied by
other signs of ill health, such as loss of appetite, vomiting, weight loss,
depression, excessive drinking or urinating, schedule a visit to the
veterinarian. If the problem is not serious and an issue of dental hygiene, the
vet might advise just some basic Dental care.
If you are a
stickler for clean and sparkly dog teeth, you can put your dog on formulated
dental diets and treats. Ask your veterinarian for a recommendation.
You can clean your
canine’s teeth with a dog toothpaste paste once or twice a week. Use a
children’s soft toothbrush to give your dog a good dental cleaning once a week.
