He came a little before the Ramayan era .He was a powerful Heheya king .His head priest was Ravan great grandfather Pulastya .He wanted a cow from Jamdagni one of the saptarishi and threatened him to give it to him .Upon his refusal he kills Jamadgni who’s son Parshuram then takes revenge his axe.
Ravan tried to win his empire ,he chained him like a pet and only released him on his grand father’s request.Eventhough he was a bad guy he was praised in many Purans.He is worshipped especially by Yadav’s of MP and Gujrat and has even temple’s constructed.
