Kalamkari
Kalamkari is derived from kalam means pen and kari means work. The artists here use pens made of bamboo and dip them in vegetable dyes to draw. Drawings are mostly fine lines and designs. This painting style was developed in Kalahasti near Chennai and Masulipatnam near Hyderabad.Some kalamkari paintings show Persian influence in motifs and designs.
Kalamkari developed during Maratha rule and developed into Karuppur style. It’s a fabric which is enhanced with gold brocade used for royal families.
